Rachel skidded behind a stack of grain sacks and swayed, ready to run whichever way became clear. Scrapper relaxed and stepped back, eyeing her position as if to plan his strategy. "You won't manhandle a woman," she declared.

"What makes you think that<" he asked.

"You're a Sanderson, that's what. Everybody knows the Sandersons are raised better than that."

He hesitated as if thinking this over and agreeing. She stepped out from behind the grain sacks in triumph. He snatched at her wrist and held it fast. "There's always one black sheep in every family. That would be me, or haven't you heard<"

Scrapper's been a fighter all his life, but he's hanging up his gloves and moving back home. Sparks fly, quite literally, from the first time he meets Rachel, but what about the timid Lydia he's been courting< On the trail of an arsonist, Scrapper finds more than he bargained for as he tries to learn to control his temper around the provoking females of Gordon Hill who are about fed up with Scrapper's outbursts getting them into trouble. With Celia and Millie Beth plotting to redirect Scrapper's attentions, Lydia has her own ideas about how to handle the determined man.

Readers who enjoyed "A Stitch in Time" and "A Byrd in the Hand" will be glad to see all the old friends from Gordon Hill, where strong men know what to do about stubborn females when they stray.

This was a fun read but much too short.

I enjoyed the way the author set up the story in the prologue. I also liked how the sparks flew between Rachel and a Scrapper. Well developed story.

I really didn't think it was great, kinda random to me and not the best written. Normally id say it was too short but because I didn't like it much I was happy when it ended. I know there are other books with the same characters, so maybe if I'd known the characters it would have made more sense. Plus, I don't like pointless spankings and to me much of the interactions were the men being needlessly bossy. Because of the present day paragraph I assumed it was time travel, so that confused me, Nothing about the main guy was appealing to me, he seemed like an immature jerk to me. I just did not care for this book. BUT... a good friend of mine loved it, so it may just be I like a different kind of alpha male. ;-)

I really enjoyed this book. It is always nice to have a book about a brat and a very alpha male coming together. The sparks diffently fly between them two.

I really enjoyed this story. I'm a big one for westerns and I love the whole bad boy theme who is really a good guy underneath.

I give Good Fences by Chula Stone 5 stars. It may not be the Great American Novel (it’s short, about 93 pages / 23,306 words), but I thought it was well written and carried the plot well. The story has a short prologue and epilogue set in the modern day, discovering a well-built stone fence. The “fence” theme carries throughout the story. It’s a good literary technique. Our hero, Scrapper, is obnoxious but his character is a consistent theme throughout. Our heroine, Rachel, is both instigator and victim of circumstances. We discover this in the opening paragraphs and, again, the author carries this theme throughout the story. It’s a romance, and that means our hero and heroine are made for each other, and she gets spanked.

I love Chula Stone's books and this one is no different. The romance came slowly but there were plenty of spankings along the way which I loved. The main character was plenty bratty and got just what she deserved!

Good romance book. Scrapper (what a name – and fitting, too) doesn't know what he wants in a mate, thinks he wants tame but cannot resist the fire Rachel presents. It is a good story on how love can come about even when it seems it won't work. I would recommend it.

The story is fluent and well-written but the love becomes secondary.

This story was ok for me. I was hoping for more, it lacked true depth in the plot. I felt it just scratched the surface.

This story had lots of characters and lots of spanking but it somehow just never came together for me. I always like Chula Stone but this was not one of my favorites.
