Sam Barringer worked his way up from the slums of Philadelphia to a corner office with a magnificent view of Manhattan. A corporate attorney, Sam was a powerhouse in his field, making more money than he could spend. Still single, he watched quietly as his associates' marriages crumbled, one after another. It seemed there was always another beautiful gold-digger ready to take whatever the first, or second or third wife left up for grabs. Many of his male clients were ridiculously wealthy and so very alone, unable to trust their own judgment when it came to women. Yet, he knew, there were good women out there. The problem was they worked in coffee shops and school lunchrooms, as bus drivers and mechanics, hardly likely to meet a man who could and would provide them with security, love and guidance.

The men surrounding him were unhappy and frustrated, looking for something they were never going to find, despite their wealth. It was then that Sam decided to help, and Sugar Babies was born. Surrounding himself with positive, upbeat people, he resigned his position, left town and set up a matchmaking service. Quickly Sam discovered that there were a lot more men like him than he'd previously believed. Men who wanted a loving, respectful and somewhat obedient partner to share their lives. Men who were naturally dominant and firmly believed that disciplining their woman was sometimes necessary to insure a healthy, peaceful and long term relationship.

While scouting out a new location for a branch office, Sam meets Johanna Maxwell. Jo is beautiful, hard working and everyone's best friend. She could be counted on for house sitting, baby-sitting or pet sitting, or even a last minute loan, if cash ran low between paydays. In fact, the only person Jo didn't take care of was Jo. Sam falls hard, but can he convince Jo that his business is legitimate? More to the point, can he convince her that when he pulls her over his knee, it's out of love?
Chapter One

It all happened so smoothly, as if by nature and not by design. They met one Sunday morning at an outdoor caf. Jo was reading the newspaper and enjoying a light breakfast. She noticed him immediately when he chose the table directly across from her. How could she not? His stature alone was enough to draw attention, but there was something else about him that made her look again, her eyes taking in every detail. She judged him to be in his mid to late thirties. Tall and well built, he had brown hair with gold highlights. If she had to guess, she would say they were natural. He didnt seem the kind of man who was the least bit insecure in his appearance. His voice as he gave the waitress his order was rich and smooth and made the dark chocolate cocoa she was drinking seem weak in comparison. Self-consciously, she turned her eyes back to her paper.

Jo often made up stories in her head about total strangers. She was detail oriented; she had to be in her profession. Lives often depended on her making sure even the tiniest problem was addressed and dealt with quickly. There were times, like today, when she felt as if the weight of the world was on her shoulders. She tried not to take her work home, but she spent most weekends worrying. Jo didnt know why she accepted the Director of Senior Services position. She had been perfectly happy dealing with her own caseload of clients and very good at her job. As a rule, she hadnt worried overly about her seniors, knowing everything was in place, as it should be. Since taking the promotion, she now had many caseworkers under her. One mistake could mean life or death for an at-risk elderly or disabled client. Now she seemed to be constantly stressed, trying not to micromanage her employees, but wondering all the same if she would get a call that someone had slipped through the cracks, with disastrous results. It would be her fault, and that was the bottom line.

Her eyes strayed to the mans hands as he picked up his coffee. They were large, with neatly trimmed nails. The watch on his wrist looked expensive, as did his loafers. His jeans were faded, probably bought that way as he was obviously well-heeled. Jo blushed when he met her eyes and smiled. Dropping her gaze, she went back to her paper, embarrassed to be caught staring. Ill bet hes a CEO, or a lawyer, she thought, not hearing him push his chair back on the stone terrace. Although he could be in law enforcement, he looks tough enough. A shadow fell across her, blocking out the sunlight, and she looked up in surprise.

Mind if I join you? he inquired. I hope Im not being too forward. Im new in town and yours looked like a friendly face. Im Sam, Sam Barringer, he told her, reaching out to shake her hand.

Johanna Maxwell, Jo, she told him, sliding her slim hand into his. His grip was warm and firm, and she prayed he wouldnt feel the perspiration on her palm. Please, she told him withdrawing her hand from his and motioning toward the other seat.

Sam sat down, setting his coffee on the table and watching as she neatly folded her paper and set it aside. The slight tremble in her hands would be imperceptible to anyone else, but not to him. Sam noticed everything, from her long mahogany hair to the delicate gold ankle bracelet. Her eyes were indigo with the faintest of shadows under them, and he wondered why the beautiful woman before him wasnt sleeping well. There were little diamond studs in her shell-like ears and an amethyst ring on her right ring finger. The skirt she wore was a wispy little blue flowered thing, not short, but showing off lovely legs, and her tank top was a pristine white. Glancing at her plate, he saw most of a croissant left untouched. Her cocoa left the tiniest bit of froth on her pink lips before she dabbed it away with her napkin.

So, Sam, what brings you to our fair city? she asked, folding her hands on the table and trying not to sound annoyed. Great, she thought, a lonely, needy man, just what she wasnt looking for. Granted, he appeared self-confident and was extremely well put together, but the last thing Jo needed was another demand on her time. Jo took care of everyone. If you were moving and needed an extra hand, Jo was your girl. Housesitting, baby-sitting, pet sitting? No problem. Need a loan, a last minute date? call Jo. In fact, the only person Jo didnt take care of in her large circle of friends, family and co-workers, was Jo.

Im in town looking at real estate, thinking about relocating one of my offices here, Sam told her, watching as she fiddled with her spoon.

What kind of business are you in? she asked, looking at her watch. The little slice of time she had carved out for herself this morning was evaporating quickly.

Sams breakfast arrived before he answered her. Looking at the enormous amount of food, Jo grimaced. It looked good. She couldnt remember the last time she had eaten a real breakfast. Usually she didnt eat breakfast at all, opting for a coffee or a glass of juice when she found time to shop for it. Her mouth watered, and she picked off a piece of her flaky croissant and nibbled it.

Would you like some of my omelet? Sam offered, noticing her watchful eyes. I have plenty here, just let me

No, no thank you, Jo replied quickly, her face flushing. Im fine. Now what was it you said you did?

I didnt actually, Sam answered, tucking into his meal with apparent enjoyment. I guess you could say that Im a treasure hunter of sorts. I procure priceless treasures for a select group of clients. We have offices in several major cities in the U.S. and a few overseas.

No kidding? she replied, surprised. I would never have guessed. So you chase down valuable objects for a bunch of millionaires who are too busy to do it themselves? I doubt youll find many treasures around here. This isnt an exceptionally wealthy community. Apart from the museum and a few antique stores, Id say the chance of finding priceless items here are limited. Do you have a card?

I do, he drawled out, but I dont think Ill give it to you just yet. Its a very exclusive service and not something I advertise lightly. Maybe when we know each other better.

He said it as if he had already decided that would be the case.

Strictly speaking, I dont offer my services exclusively to the very rich, he continued. Although a client would need to have the wherewithal to provide excellent care for their acquisition, if Im lucky enough to locate exactly what they are looking for. As far as there not being priceless things in the area, youd be surprised. After all, one mans trash is anothers treasure.

Oh, mysterious, she laughed. What makes you think we will ever know each other well enough for you to give me your card? she asked, tucking her hair behind her ear.

Well, Id like to know you better, Jo, he said simply, his dark eyes staring into hers.

Jo was nervous. This man was calm and determined. He boldly asked for what he wanted, no pussyfooting around. It wasnt something she was used to. Most of the men she dated fell into two categories. Either they were blatantly full of their own sexual prowess, assuming that any woman would love to fall into bed with them, or they were so respectful and timid that she felt as though she were out with her brother, not that she had one. Jo never met anyone quite as confident as Sam appeared to be, and it made her a little flustered.

Changing the subject, Sam asked Jo about the community she lived in, the local attractions, the economic atmosphere as she saw it, and picked her brain for anything that might be of use to him professionally. Was there a problem with crime, the homeless, unemployment? In reality he had already done his homework on the area, but the sound of her voice appealed to him as no other had in a long time. She was a small woman, exquisitely formed, and he marveled that there was no ring on her ring finger. Apparently the local yahoos didnt know a prize when they saw one.

Jo drew him in like a moth to a flame as she quietly answered his questions and told him a little about herself. She spoke casually about her job, her family and friends. Clearly she was a caregiver, and it was as transparent as glass to Sam that while Jo was taking care of everyone, no one was taking care of Jo, hence the dark circles under her eyes and the frail appearance. Oh, he didnt doubt she was a strong woman. Shed have to be to keep up the schedule she set for herself, but Sam knew people, especially women, and he could sense it wouldnt be long before she burned herself out. What a shame it would be if this beautiful, vibrant woman lost herself in endless work and responsibility.

Jo realized shed been rambling and had probably revealed far more than she intended. He was so easy to talk to. He hadnt interrupted her except to ask a few pertinent questions as he finished his breakfast. Leaning back in his chair, he studied her.

When can I see you again? he asked. In his mind, it was imperative that she say yes.

Sam, its been really nice talking to you, but I dont think I have time for...

Then make timeplease. Surely you can spare a few hours for a quiet dinner. Im harmless really. You can Google me, he told her with a grin.

Jo laughed, but she would Google him, just as soon as she got home. Alright, I guess we could have dinner. When did you have in mind?

Can you make it tonight?

No, I cant tonight, I have a prior commitment, Jo told him, picking up her cell and looking at her calendar.

How about tomorrow then? Im flexible.

Somehow Jo didnt quite believe that. Her curiosity had always been a problem, and apparently she hadnt outgrown it. One way or another she intended to find out exactly what kind of services he provided.

How long will you be in town? she asked absently, as she checked her planner.

As long as I want, he answered truthfully, his voice deep and firm.

Jo raised her eyebrow and looked at him inquiringly.

I can pretty much be anywhere I want. I dont mean to sound arrogant. I have worked extremely hard to get where I am today, and this freedom didnt come cheaply. I choose to be here, at least for a while. Now is tomorrow good for you? he asked as he reached across the table and took her small hand in his.

It was comforting, the feel of her hand in his. His dark eyes held hers, and she found herself agreeing without even making sure she could. If there was something else on her calendar, she would cancel it. This man was sexy and bold, without making her feel overpowered. For some reason, she felt she could trust him. She would have dinner with him.

Yes, tomorrows fine, she answered, enjoying the tingle she got from his thumb rubbing gently across the back of her hand. Where do you want to meet?

Give me your address and Ill pick you up.

No, Jo hedged, Ill meet you.

Good girl, Sam said approvingly. Im glad to see theres a brain in that beautiful head of yours. Make sure you tell someone where youll be and with whom, he ordered smoothly.

Ill meet you at Delaneys at seven-thirty. Heres my number if you need to reach me before that, he told her as he let go of her hand and scribbled on a corner of his napkin. He rose when she stood, and, with his hand on her elbow, walked her to the iron rail that separated the terrace from the sidewalk.

Dont be late, he told her, tipping her chin up and gazing into her eyes.

Ill try, Mr. Bossy, Jo answered and grinned.

Try hard, he replied, bending and placing a gentle kiss on her cheek.

Johanna smiled and walked away. It surprised her how natural the kiss felt, as if she had known him for years instead of a couple of hours. He was certainly not a man one could ignore, that was for sure. In a relatively short period, she had revealed more about herself and her life than many of her friends knew. There was something about him that not only intrigued her, but soothed her fears, a potent combination.

Sam was an old fashioned guy and when he met Jo he knew that he wanted her. Jo was scared of relationships and was busy trying to please everyone else. Sam showed Jo that she needed to stop that, but in the meantime Sam changed. When Jo realizes that Sam changed because of her she couldn't let that happen. Thanks to a talk with Sam's good friend Jo makes a plan to bring the old Sam back. I also enjoyed Mike and Brandy.

I did like this story a lot. It was well thought out, believable plot and enjoyable characters. I agree with some of the other reviewers that it shouldn't have to be his way or the highway. There could have been some compromises. Maybe figuring out about her control issue thing. I did like the fact that he did try to do it her way, but it just wasn't for him. I would have liked an epilogue, showing how things worked out for them further down the road.

I enjoyed this book. It has a cute story line and the characters were fun and well developed. It felt like it ended a bit soon, but there is a sequel. I enjoy the series, and I like the concept of SugarBabies Inc. A clever and cute story.

Stevie MacFarlane is definitely a first class story teller. She has original plots, strong likable characters, and can always draw you in to her story. This story is no exception. It's well written and captivating.

To be honest, when I got this book, I wasn't entirely sure whether I was going to like it or not. However, after I've read it, I'm very, very glad that I did! The characters tie together very sweetly (although, I must admit, Brandy and the doctor are my favorite), and I was grinning (or panting) through-out the entire thing!

I truly love this first book about Sam and Johanna. She really needs his caring, loving influence and discipline in her life. She hates being spanked not only because of the pain, but also about the giving up of control over her life. This great story is about them both coming to terms with about with they can they cannot live with. Can't wait to read the second book.

What a fun story! The concept is unique, which you don't find much of lately. And the characters are fun, the romance is sweet and sultry, and I can't wait to explore book two and find out more about Sugar Babies, Inc.

I was so excited when I saw this story come out, and I saved up, and I was not dissapointed!! :D I think knowing it's going to be a series I was able to give it a lot of grace for unanswered things. :D I think my favorite scene is where she is dealing with low blood sugar, because I deal with that and My Man is fierce about me eating enough. (Iiiiii might not have eaten in the last 6 hours and I might be starving and this might have reminded me I need to go do that ;-)) So I really related with her well!! I thought the doctor and older gal were cute!!

A very well written book. I like that the concept of Sugar Babies gives that author room for endless continuation stories. I hope she keeps writing more, because while the story didn't leave one hanging, I still want to read more about the relationships that began in this book.

Really enjoyed this one! A very different take on the matchmaking business. Sam owns a matchmaking service that sets business men up with the right kind of women. He meets Jo, an overworked under appreciated woman, who needs his help to change; or so Sam thinks. Jo doesn't like his interference and thinks her life is just fine the way it is. Lucky for her Sam doesn't take no for an answer! I enjoyed this story an look forward to reading more on Sugar Babies, Inc.

Sam Barringer is the CEO of Sugar Babies, Inc., and he is a self-made man. His company serves men seeking all types of women and various types of relationships. I liked the fact that he wasn't looking drop-dead gorgeous women with stellar careers; he was interested in real women of good character, with good hearts, and open minds. He didn't push any woman into something she didn't want. If a couple hit it off at one of his parties, they could negotiate a contract which could be cancelled if things didn't work out. He wasn't exactly looking for a woman of his own when he met Johanna, but he was immediately taken with her. She agreed to a first date and from that moment on, Sam was concerned as to how he would explain Sugar Babies and its concept to her. He didn't want a contractual relationship with her, but she had to accept how he made his living. Johanna regrets taking the promotion in her career as it leaves her no time for herself. She is great at taking care of everyone else. Sam wants her to better manage her time so she can do the things she loves to do and he offers her many options. He also wants his woman to take care of him (don't most men?) and he wants desperately to take care of her. Does she compromise in the end? Does she give in to his wishes, ignoring her own desires? I don't think so. I think she discovers that she can have both. After nearly losing him, I like the way she wins him back. Steamy sex and so much more, great characters and supporting characters, and a very interesting story line. I very much enjoyed the book.

I love this author and this is another wonderful love story. It takes a little while for Jo to figure out Mike's business. Mike has an alpha male personality and Jo is always busy taking care of others, so maybe some discipline will make her think about her needs. It is funny and touches your heart. I can't wait to see book 2.

I enjoyed this story about Sam and Johanna. They had the beginnings of a great relationship until Johanna decides she doesn't want spanking to be a part of it. When Sam becomes withdrawn and sad Johanna decides to make some changes. I loved what she did and how she presented these changes to Sam. I didn't like the scenes where the women earned punishments; I thought they seemed staged and a little over acted. I also wish there was more time spent in their relationship. There was a lot of time spent in their heads and not enough interaction with each other.

This was a surprisingly good read. I almost didn't buy it because of the name, but I enjoyed it regardless. The heroine's acceptance of the hero's needs was convincingly challenging, and I was left feeling like this was a relationship that might actually work long-term.

I felt disappointed with this story; it started out strong with a good premise, Sam is CEO of a company *Sugar Babies that matchmakes for Alpha males,.. of course he's an alpha male himself and he sets his eyes on Joahnna (Jo), who resists being spanked, Along the way we meet Dr Mike and Brandy who get together, and have their happy ending, then it is back to Sam and Jo... I was enjoying the story, was happy for Dr Mike & Brandy, did not know why they were brought into the story, then realized it was so Jo could know and chat with Dr. Mike... I was extremely disappointed with how the author ended this story .. Read it for yourself, see if you agree, I want to tell you WHY I'm disappointed but that means giving the ending away, .. not a bad story, I just did not like how the author ended it.

This looks like it is going to be an interesting series. The premise of the story is a company called Sugar Babies Inc that is a match making service catering to alpha males. Sam is the founder of the company, but meets his match in a coffee shop. Joanna is a woman who would do anything for her family and friends, but fails to take care of herself. I wish this book was a little less predictable in the ways that Joanna gets into trouble with Sam. Joanna really acts the brat in many ways while she struggles with loving Sam but hating his spankings. Dr Mike and Brandy had their own struggle to happiness as well. I enjoyed this spanking romance, and I'm looking forward to more books in this series. Can't wait to see why one of the clients wasn't allowed to keep her shoes.

I too have loved all McFarlane's books so was eager to try this. I did enjoy the characters - like her other stories, McFarlane brings them to life. The premise was a bit...iffy...to me though and I was never really comfortable with his business. I loved Mike and Brandy and was glad to see them get together, but I had a lot of trouble with the ending of this story. Sam lays down an ultimatum, literally saying it's his way or no way, which causes Jo to have an emotional break-down. He basically tells her she needs to give up her job and stay home, take care of him and her mother without regard to the reality that perhaps, she gets a lot of satisfaction from working outside the home. Yes, he realized his mistake with the ultimatum and tried to make amends, but things are even worse until Joanna makes the move to fix things. I didn't like at all that, in the end, Joanna was the one to give up her job and change her ways, and basically give Sam everything he wanted. Where was the compromise? Where was the discussion on some of the things he could bend on? Yes, Sam was loving and truly wanted to care for Joanna, and the sex was amazing, but he never addressed what SHE wanted...only what he did. And I found that very frustrating in the end.

I've loved all Stevie MacFarlane's books and A Sweet and Sassy Match is no exception. Reading this book, I felt like she was building a new family with Sugar Babies, Inc., just as she did with the O'Malley family in her first series. Her characters come alive in her writing. You know them, their inner-most thoughts belong to real people. The dialogue between her characters is spot on and often funny. A Sweet and Sassy Match is about two couples: Sam and Johanna and Dr. Mike and Brandy. Sam would just about give up his soul to have Johanna, but she's a stubborn woman and not at all willing to be spanked when she neglects her own well-being. Brandy, on the other hand, is compliant and thrilled when Dr. Mike and his slow hand help her resolve her problem with coital headaches and a poor self image. Appropriately named, the book is sweet, sassy; it's also sexy, romantic, and erotic. I hope the Book 2 keeps me up to date with these two couples and brings in the other couples mentioned. Marcus and Susan and Ty and Kelsey apparently signed contracts with Sugar Babies. After Marcus has Susan's shoes thrown away and she seems to be complaining all the way to the car, I want to know what's in the contract.

I bought this book with some reservations. The idea of a company matching up women with men with certian desires made me unsure. I am happy to say i loved this book. It was full of warm and caring people. Men who did all thay could for the women thay love

This book is AWESOME. The characters Sam and Jo fit together perfectly. It seems to be love at first sight with these two, but they are not without trials. Sam is patient and loving. While Jo is sweet and stubborn, she just doesn't see it that way. I think this book is a must read.
