This story kept me captivated and turning the pages as over time in the story, bits and pieces of the horror and life altering moments sent Aideen Shannon running for her life and staying hid under the radar of her vicious step-father and step-brother. Lies told about her makes returning to her hometown difficult where most people treat her like an outcast, but she isn’t there for them, it is to take back her family’s ranch and legacy. The plot twists, along with mystery and suspense rips at your soul with what all she has endured, she is crass, has a foul mouth, and tries to let insults roll off her but deep down, she is hurting. The story has a great cast of characters, involves so many emotions, attempts on her life, and unfair treatment. Dealing with her former lover, Bryce Carlisle, is heartbreaking, and his heavy hand, and not consensual in the beginning, is more spiteful, but over time, he is trying to get her to see he cares and is trying to reign in her hothead attitude. This is not a fluffy, happy story, it is dark, painful, has physical abuse, and not easy to read, but it does end on a happy note. One thing about Aideen, she is stronger than a lot of women, and she proves it.

Poor Aideen, she is a survivor, standing on her own two feet for years and covering up the abuse she suffered. This story is well written with a lot of different elements. The characters are vividly described with real faults and failings. This author has a great gift for descriptions, using few words to evoke a picture. A great talent. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Aideen is a survivor. Her stubbornness and strong will get her in trouble but they are also what enables her to persevere and succeed. Anyone she sees as interfering in her life or telling her what to do gets a tongue lashing from her. She is fiercely independent as she learnt from an early age to only depend on herself. She is lucky her friends support and care about her and ignore her rudeness. She is otherwise a good person. Bryce wasn't a good guy in my opinion. He listens to gossip but never listens to her, never asks Aideen for her side of the story, assumes it's always her fault. He is only interested in what he wants and his personal attacks on her were nothing short of vitriol. He uses his size to intimidate her and his words and actions show no love or respect for her. This is an action packed story and we get to really understand Aideen's emotions on this roller coaster ride.

This mustang took me on a thrilling ride. Aideen kept me on the edge of my seat throughout this entire story. Her character is so clearly written, I felt her pain, insecurities, anger, frustration, despair and, most importantly, her driving need to show the town folk how strong and successful she is. I admired her and willed her on as she set her life to rights. My problem, though, was how much I detest Bryce. He’s one of those ‘might makes right’ men who use their size to get what they want and that’s what he actually says to Aideen. The first meeting he calls Aideen a cold hearted bitch and then goes downhill from there. He has misjudged her in the past, never giving her a chance to tell her side of the story, misjudges her in the present, never giving her a chance to explain, and when he finds out he’s wrong, he basically says sorry, but you’ll forgive me. This guy even repeated what Aideen told him she needed and then proceeded to manhandle her anyway. I wanted her to punch him out and kick him out when he blamed her for the fight in the restaurant where he left her alone knowing there was trouble coming. When he called her a bitch in heat and said come after him when she was ready to stop hiding, I wanted her to throw him out for good. The story kept me reading straight through the night. I adored Penny and want to read her story next, but I still want Bryce out of the picture. Aideen deserves much better. I will definitely be looking forward to what else this author has to offer.

I love this book. It is full of suspense, spanking and great friendships. The h has been horribly misjudged and she is treated badly by her ex especially, but also the whole town. It is so refreshing to see it all set right in the end, but getting there is a hard road to travel with more than one bad guy in the mix who wants her dead. I could not put this book down, it grabs you from start to finish. I look forward to reading more from this author.

What a ride! This is an at times funny, at times heart stopping. ride through Aideen’s crazy mixed up world where nothing is what it appears to be. There are lots of love, deceit, surprises and spankings as we go along on the ride as Aideen reclaims her life and herself. This is a great book that allows the characters to develop into complex but real people that has you cheering for Bryce who refuses to let the past be repeated and Aideen to demands her future. This may be the first book I have read by Ms. Burrelli but I sure hope it will not be the last!
